From the Pastor’s Desk . . .

And He gave some as apostles, and some as prophets, and some as evangelists, and some as pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of the service, to the building up of the body of Christ; until we all attain to a unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a mature man, to the measure of the stature which belongs to the fullness of Christ.   Ephesians 4:11-13.

We want our church to grow!  When you hear those words and think about the church growing, what comes to your mind?  My first thought is numbers.  If we see more and more people coming every Sunday, we would say that our church is growing.  Growing numbers does not mean that the church is growing.  Many people are baptized and never become part of the body spiritually.  In the above verses, Paul writes about the spiritual gifts given to born-again believers.  The gifts mentioned, along with those in 1 Corinthians 12 are given to equip the saints for the work of building up the body of Christ, the church.  As a member of the church, what is your spiritual gift?  Have you become a disciple of Christ to the point that your gift has been revealed?  If you are not a new believer and do not know what your gift is, did you ever become a disciple?  We cannot separate being a disciple from being a Christian.  If we each grow spiritually to the point of using our gifts to build up the church, then we will see the church grow as the Lord intended.  Let's let the Lord grow His church through us!

Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father is in Me; otherwise believe because of the works themselves. Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do, he will do also; and greater works than these he will do; because I go to the Father. Whatever you ask in My name, that will I do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask Me anything in My name, I will do it.
John 14:11-13.

Jesus said that the one who believes in Him will do the works that He did, and greater works than what Jesus did. In order for those greater works to become a reality, we must be in Christ as Christ was in the Father. There are many church members who are confused because they ask using the name of Jesus, and prayers go unanswered. When we are in Christ as Christ is in the Father, our praying will become kingdom praying -- His kingdom come, His will be done on earth as it is in heaven. We will work to see His kingdom come on earth. If we ask anything in relation to building His kingdom, He will do it. There is another promise: Seek first the kingdom, and all these things will be added to you.
If you are a born again Christian, this means that you are in Christ, and Christ is in you. What does your work in the kingdom say about your relationship with Christ?
